eliminating the GAP between patients and providers

Are you a parent worried that your young-adult son or daughter is burdened with depression?  Is your teen-ager dealing with severe anxiety? Has a primary care physician suggested that your child consult with a mental health professional? These scenarios can be overwhelming for a parent who is unfamiliar with the mental health care system and its array of professionals with different titles.

Geisel Advocacy for Patients LLC can help relieve your worry and stress. We know that a mental health condition is a medical condition and must be treated as such. You wouldn’t hesitate to ensure that your child is treated for pneumonia or diabetes. We also understand the mental health care system. We can find your son or daughter the right mental health specialist who also is a good match for your young person’s personality. We can explain the therapeutic process to you and your son or daughter, and coach them through it. We can research and explain various treatment options. We aim to make your teen or young-adult feel good about seeking help for a mental health condition, and encourage them to stick with it until they and their mental health care provider agree that they are capable of managing on their own.

Perhaps it is not a child but an elder parent living in a different state about whom you are concerned.  You may feel frustrated that your mom or dad can’t really explain to you what their physician said. You wanted them to ask certain questions, but they were embarrassed or intimidated. Plus,  they may have transportation to the door of the medical building, but there is no one their to wheel them to the doctor’s office and summon the transportation for the return trip.

Whether you are living with a chronic illness or a sudden catastrophic illness, Geisel Advocacy for Patients can help reduce the stress, frustration and wheel-spinning along your health care journey.  The aim is to ensure that the patient and those the patient designates understand the diagnosis, treatment options and the questions to ask so informed decisions can be made. Additionally, Geisel Advocacy for Patients strives to promote understanding of the health care system and medical specialties in order to make appropriate care accessible.

Based in Northern Virginia, our primary area of service is the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. However, some services can be provided throughout the United States via telephone and technology. We are open to patients needing any of the services we provide.

A Personal Note from Roseanne

I am here to listen to you and your health care needs and challenges. Nothing is more rewarding to me than having someone tell me that I made them feel understood and validated. You will be treated with compassion and respect, because I consider it a privilege when someone puts their trust in me.

I am a communicator and a connector. These elements of my personality were key in my journalism career, and still are assets in my roles as wife, mother, friend and member of a large extended family.

Those traits also are the reason I became a board certified patient advocate. It comes naturally to me. Let me extend a hand to you or your loved ones who face challenging health care issues. I will be your strong advocate.
